Toeristen hebben het prachtige Laos gelukkig nog niet massaal ontdekt. Daardoor heeft Laos nog altijd de charme van een onaangetast land en is nog erg authentiek, voor velen misschien wel één van de belangrijkste Laos reistips op zich!
Laos is een land waar veel mensen maar weinig vanaf weten. Weinigen weten waarschijnlijk dat Laos het meest gebombardeerde land ter wereld is. Tijdens de Amerikaanse oorlog in Vietnam hebben de Amerikanen meer bommen op Laos gegooid dan er in heel Europa gevallen zijn tijdens WOII. Dit vanwege de Ho Chi Minh route die door het land liep ter bevoorrading van de Noord-Vietnamese troepen in het zuiden van Vietnam. Als je boven het oosten van Laos vliegt zie je nog duidelijk honderden B52 bomkraters in het landschap terug!
Vooral de rust valt je in Laos op. In het noorden vind je indrukwekkende uitlopers van het Himalayagebergte en uitgestrekte jungles terwijl je in het zuiden vlakke gebieden vindt aan de oevers van de brede Mekong rivier. Sfeervolle maar heerlijk rustige steden als Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Pakse en Vang Vieng wanen je soms even terug in het verleden ten tijde van de Franse overheersing. Naast een bezoek aan de steden kan je ook trekkingen maken in het prachtige binnenland en noorden of een van de prachtige eilanden in de Mekong in het zuiden bezoeken. Ook het Bolaven plateau met indrukwekkende watervallen en unieke flora en fauna is zeker een aanrader. Als je van rust, natuur en cultuur houdt, dan zal je je in Laos zeker op je plek voelen.

Laos ligt behoorlijk ver van Nederland vandaan. Reis je naar Laos toe, dan is het voor de hand liggend dat je gaat vliegen. In theorie kan je ook per trein en deels per bus naar Laos reizen maar dan ben je erg lang onderweg.
Vliegen naar Laos
Vanuit Nederland zijn er helaas geen rechtstreekse vluchten naar Laos toe. Je zal minimaal één keer moeten overstappen om het land te bereiken. De meest logische en gebruikte vliegroute naar Laos is via Bangkok. Vanaf Bangkok kan zijn er directe vluchten naar Luang Prabang in het noorden, Vientiane in Centraal-Laos en Pakse in Zuid-Laos.
